  • Karen Johnston, DVM

    Practice Owner

    Dr. Karen Johnston graduated from Cornell University in 1990. She became co-owner of Hampton Veterinary Hospital, PC in 1996 and Natural Solutions, Inc in 2000. She has a passion for exotic, avian and reptile medicine and is a frequent lecturer for exotic and avian clubs on LI.

                    Being a progressive practitioner, Dr. Johnston attends continuing education seminars regularly. She holds a high standard of care with her approach to Veterinary medicine and consistently looks for ways to improve her practice and the veterinary field as a whole.   

    Outside of the office, Dr. Johnston enjoys spending time with her family, practicing Yoga/Pilates and Mixed Martial Arts.  In 2009 she co-authored Integrating Complementary Medicine into Veterinary Practice, Wiley publishers.

  • Meaghan Maguire, LVT, Practice Manager

           Meaghan graduated SCCC in 2010 with a degree in veterinary technology. She joined HVH in 2010 with 6 years experience as a technician/ assistant. Meaghan enjoys cuddling up with her 3 cats "Oh Dae Su", "Mingus", and "Tellie" to read a good book.  Meaghan brings her experience as a Yoga instructor and Reiki practitioner to the patients she works with, creating a calm and peaceful experience for the animals.

  • Traci Shapiro, LVT

              Traci graduated S.U.N.Y Delhi in 1996 with a degree in veterinary technology and passed the NY state board exam in 1998. She has a pit bull named "Shyla", a mixed breeds named "Kenzo", a domestic short haired cat "Regan", three turtles "Morgan, Fred & Wilma" and a tank full of fish. Traci loves to help find homes for animals in need.

  • Desiree Twigg, LVT

             Desiree began working at HVH in 2005 as kennel attendant and receptionist. She reached her goal of becoming an LVT, in 2010 when she graduated from SCCC with a degree in veterinary science. Her furry four legged family includes "Timmy, Jakes & Luna" all of the feline purr-suasion. Desiree enjoys keeping up with veterinary medicine and is currently enrolled in continuing education.

  • Caitlin Snyder, LVT

    Caitlin graduated SCCC as a veterinary technician in 2014 and passed her  boards to become a LVT in December 2014. She worked previously at Bideawee Animal Shelter as an animal care specialist. Caitlin joined the HVH staff in March 2015. Her animal family consists of 4 dogs (Casey, Bella, Cruz, & Damon) and 2 bearded dragons named Coors & Heineken.

  • Devin Chihuan, LVT

    Devin was born and raised in Suffolk County, Long Island. During her junior and senior years of high school Devin pursued her passion of working with animals and attended and graduated BOCES animal science program. She then went on with her studies and graduated from SCCC with a degree in veterinary technology in 2016. Before becoming and employee of HVH, Devin interned with us during her schooling. Devin enjoys reading,taking CE classes, spending time with her Newfie "Jack" and is looking forward to traveling in the future.

  • Elizabeth Smith

             Liz graduated from SUNY Farmingdale with a degree in animal science in 1999. She joined HVH in 1996 as a kennel attendant and worked her way up to a veterinary technician. Liz has four dogs, "Charlie, Nikki, Buddy & Isaboo" , an African Grey "Conan", and a pond full of fish. Liz is an artist at heart and loves spending time on her crafts and traveling with her furry family (and husband).

  • Patricia Gehring

           Pat started with HVH in 1983. Pat has a certification from BOCES as a veterinary assistant and is currently enrolled in continuing education classes for veterinary technology. She has a cat name "Sally" and a JRT named "Smokey". Pat brightens the hospital by making beautiful hand made plant  gardens for the front office.

  • Laura Hille, BS, CEMP

           Laura joined the HVH team in 2008. She graduated BOCES with a  certification in Holistic Animal Care in 2008, from Equissage as a certified equine massage practitioner in 2007 and from St. Joseph's College with a BS in Business Administration. She enjoys horseback riding and cart pulling with her two horses "Finny & Luna". She has two cats "Furby and Marshall", and mixed breed dog named "Dylan". Laura also owns Majesty in Motion Equine Massage, so if you have any questions regarding massage for horses don't hesitate to ask.

               Marky graduated from BOCES with a certificate in canine careers in June 2013.  He joined our team Aug15th 2013 as a kennel attendant. Marky has two Labradors named "Sparky & Ziggy". He is aspiring to be and LVT and is currently taking continuing education classes to become a veterinary assistant.

  • Denise Arce

    Denise began working as Kennel attendant in October of 2015. In the past she has volunteered for the summer at a horse stable and worked at Brookhaven Animal Shelter. Her passion for working with animals has led her to enroll in classes to become a Vet Technician and is aspiring to become a Veterinarian one day. Her four legged family consist of her two small dogs Gizmo, KC and her cat Fufa.

  • Amanda Lee

    Amanda joined the Hampton Vet team in August of 2014. She moved to Long Island in 2012, coming from Augusta, Georgia. She is currently working toward her nursing degree at Suffolk Community College and volunteers at Bide-a-Wee during her limited spare time. She has a Chihuahua, Tito, that loves coming to work at the front desk with his mommy as much as he can.

    Sharon joined HVH February 2005 as a receptionist. She is an instructor for The American Red Cross and a NYS public notary. Sharon joined HVH with 35 years of experience as a bookkeeper and receptionist. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her 5 dogs and volunteering feeding a cat colony. Sharon is currently enrolled in continuing education classes to further her knowledge in the veterinary field.

  • Claw & Tyke

              "Claw (aka Spike)" is our resident 12 year old red ear slider with his new 6 year old companion "Tyke" . Their positions here at Hampton Vet are to greet and entertain both our clients and our patients. "Claw & Tyke" love their job greeting everyone that comes by their tank with enthusiasm, following them back and forth hoping for a hand out and some attention, so that they can say they did their job. So next time you're in stop by Claw and Tyke's tank so they can say hello to you too.

  • Bonnie Isola

    Bonnie joined HVH in Feb of 2014. Began as an assistant but decided to work in kennel and is now lead kennel. She is certified in medical terminology and is learning a lot "hands on".  She is a proud owner of an
    Austrailian Shepard Cattle mix, and a beautiful black doll face persian, both critters were rescuses. She is now forstering a Yorkie.  Bonnie likes helping all staff when needed. She enjoys all the adventures that come daily, ex: giving baths, medications, playing in the yard and just loving those critters up.

  • Jiu Jia Wen, DVM

    Dr. Wen graduated with a B.S. in Veterinary Medicine from Beijing Agricultural University in 1984 and a M.S. in Veterinary Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine in 1987. He then went on to become the first veterinarian from the People’s Republic of China to be licensed to practice in the USA in 1992. 

                    Dr. Wen has been the co-owner of Hampton Veterinary Hospital, PC since 1996 where he has dedicated his life to blending both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine to treat a variety of patients large and small.

                    In 2000, Dr. Wen opened Natural Solutions, Inc so that veterinarians throughout the world can have access to his formulated Chinese Herbal Therapies for their patients. Dr. Wen, in 2009 co-author Integrating Complementary Medicine into Veterinary Practice, Wiley publishers.

    Dr. Wen enjoys lecturing about herbal therapies to his colleagues as well as pet owners throughout the USA as well as China.
